can one hate america...

and love maine... ?
Verizon customers in Maine have asked the state's Public Utilities Commission to investigate whether the telecom giant violated privacy laws by cooperating with a domestic surveillance program. The PUC is expected to decide Monday whether to open such a probe.

In a July 28 letter to the PUC, the U.S. Department of Justice cites national security as a key reason for its opposition to a state investigation. The seven-page letter suggests a lawsuit is likely if Maine regulators decide to investigate.
how about this... ? maybe maine should prohibit verizon from conducting any business in the state until it cleans up it's patently unconstitutional, civil rights-violative practices...

and isn't maine the state that's aggressively minimizing the impact for consumers the pharmaceutical industry's penchant for price gouging... ?

and while we're in the neighborhood, isn't massachusetts the first state to establish universal health coverage... ?

and -- oh! -- isn't connecticut about to kick the swine lieberman to the curb... ?

damn, but i'm proud to be from new england... !

meanwhile, isn't it TEXAS that keeps getting us into these damned wars... ?

I think Leiberman has a few more punches. I read an interesting piece today on the CT vote. It looks like Lieberman may not take the dem primary but if he runs as an independent, would take more pub votes from the card dealer the GOP has running the race, plus a few dems with him. Enough to win it.

As usual, the dems have painted themselves into a corner by a lack of planning and testicles. Lieberman losing will just be a bigger pain in the ass for the left.

Yes, if you advocate greater state's rights (which, you know, I do). Of course, it is not about hating america per se, but hating the way it is governed. Always thought you had a libertarian streak, G.

Of course, we fought a war over state's rights about 145 years ago, but that should not be a deterrent.

word is moderate repubs aren't particularly enamored of lieberlips either; but the right-wing fascists luuuuuuuv him in a big way, precisely because he so enabled bush, not only on iraq but in domestic policy as well... cloture vote, alito, hello... ??

the beauty of his getting beat, then, is he loses his "wolf-in-sheep's-clothing" personna, which was his greates asset to the busheviks...

but going back to my first point, i think a lot of the votes he got last night were from loyal dems who will soon grow tired of his "i'm strong on defense/they're not" b.s., and will return to the fold; meanwhile moderate repubs who despise (the rational side of "hate") bush, though not as much as i, will vote for lamont too...

take it to the bank...

MMM... have to agree with you there G. All I'm saying is Lieberman will divide the democratic vote and anyone with a calculator can figure out that is bad for the left. Moderate pubs would sooner go with Lieberman than an out and out lefty. So... you have them voting for Lieberman, some Dems and a few frustrated right wingers who won't throw away their vote on the card-dealer the Pubs have running now... and that equals Lieb back in office.
