Al Gore For President

A former vice president of the United States delivers what should be deemed a major speech in which he essentially calls the sitting president a criminal, and declares the foundation of our government, the Constitution, in crisis -- and the major networks are... where??

Listen to the WMP/QT, courtesy of Crooks & Liars, of Gore orating like he never did in 2000, juxtapose that with the abject capitulation this past week by our minority representation on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and one can only conclude there's no where else to turn.

Personally, I'm convinced Congress will never again change over to Democratic control if it doesn't happen this year. And if it doesn't I'd lay odds that with respect to the 2008 presidential race, either it will be suspended or the 22nd Amendment will be repealed -- and with the latter, the guarantee of another term for Dubya.

And to all you police state apologists and/or insufferably complacent oblivions, don't get too cozy; facism is relentless and it needs feeding.

Update (1/17): Olbermann led off last night's Countdown with the Gore speech, hurrah! Now if we can get back to what NBC discovered about Dubya wiretapping Christiane Amanpour?

An imperial president? Geez, you are paranoid. Americans want Cinncinatus, not Julius Caesar, and that Amendment is the only one I consider to be carved in Granite for all eternity.

As for Gore, I woulda voted for him in 2000 if he didn't play the class card and give middle americans a lot of reason to believe that he would be a traditional tax-and-spend, weak on defense Dem. That, and the fact he thought I was rich. News to me -- I am still waiting for someone to tell me I can afford to buy my own island.

As an additional aside, I would consider Dems because they are good for the legal business. They permit questionable suits in order to redistribute wealth, regulate businesses to death, will reimpose confiscatory estate taxes, and convince successful people that it is better to have their wealth offshore. No wonder lawyers support the dems in large numbers. Then, like a lot of other professionals out there, I can profit from the systematic rendering of the carcass of Old American Dream before the music finally stops (of course, all of that wealth will be parked offshore in untouchable trusts).
